Podiatry Services

With every step you take your foot hits the ground with a force equal to twice your body weight
(and up to eight times your body weight during sporting activities).
For anyone who participates in any kind of sport at whatever level, it is essential that the feet and legs are maintained in their ideal Biomechanical position.
This will certainly reduce the risk of future injuries as well as helping to improve performance and speed up recovery

Here at the Podiatry clinic I have a variety of services to help prevent problems occuring, diagnose existing problems and correct those problems.

Range of service offered:

Biomechanical Examination
Video and Treadmill Analysis

Manufacture of Orthotic Devices

Referral to Consultants

Physiotherapy back-up
Rehabilitation Advice

One of the newest services available is a hitech computerised Footscan

By simply walking over a pressure sensitive floor pad I am able to pin point the main impact areas of your feet using the 3D screen graph and foot alignment display.

The position of the foot or shoe on the ground not only influences the ankle but also the leg, knee, hip, pelvis and spine. Only reducing the excessive movement within the feet and ankles can the strength and stability of the body be improved.
The first step to create a Orthotic device is to take a foam inprint of the foot so a plaster mould can be made

How can the function be improved?

Correct diagnosis is an Essential part of the treatment process.
By looking at a video of the foot and leg whilst walking or running it is possible to determine which parts are not functioning in their ideal position

Making a plaster model of the foot in its ideal position allows a custom made insole (Orthotic Device) to be made which is an exact fit to the shape of the foot.

Function Orthotic Devices can control the excessive movement of the limb and so reduce excessive wear and tear in the joints and muscles.
The materials used have been developed to give cushioning and shock absorption whilst adequate support to the mechanical structures within the feet and legs.

Careful monitoring and follow up ensures comfortable wear of the Orthotic Devices and allows the position of the feet and legs to be regularly assessed.

Minor adjustments to the Orthotic Devices allow for any changes that take place in the feet and legs to be incorporated into the devices.

One in five people experience difficulties in walking running or just standing Correction of foot, ankle and leg position is achieved by Functional Orthotic Devices.
